Every drop of blood tells a story.

The ColonSentry test measures the expression of seven genes, which serve as biomarkers to detect colorectal cancer. Interpretation of the status of these seven biomarkers allows doctors to identify patients who have an increased current risk of colorectal cancer. ColonSentry is based on award-winning technology, powered by the Sentinel Principle™.

Individuals assessed as having an increased current risk of colorectal cancer should consider having a colonoscopy (a procedure for detecting and removing colon abnormalities by inserting a medical instrument into the colon). Individuals assessed as having a decreased current risk of colorectal cancer should discuss with their doctor further screening, including repeating ColonSentry at regular intervals.

Regularly reassessing one's current risk of colorectal cancer with ColonSentry as part of a periodic medical check-up or at any time is a good idea and will help track changes in risk over time – an essential element in personalized health management. ColonSentry is not a genetic test and thus does not provide information about genetic predisposition or future risk. ColonSentry assesses your current risk at a particular point in time. A decreased risk result is just that: a decreased risk that does not rule out the presence of the disease.

Incorporating ColonSentry into routine physicals or performing ColonSentry as a stand-alone test may save a large number of lives by helping to ensure that patients with the greatest current risk are encouraged to undergo a colonoscopy. This approach is expected to facilitate earlier detection of colorectal cancer and improve colorectal cancer survival rates.
